Put your ass in the chair

Way back in the 90s when I was writing technical books, that was the advice. Write. Write every day. Write even if you don’t have anything to say. So here I am, ass in chair, writing about discipline. To keep it all relevant, we’re documenting the journey towards finding the thing I want to do with my newfound retirement freedom. This project is determining if writing is on the list.

Back then, I thought that writing programming books for nontechnical audiences might be a real thing. I ended up writing four books, which sold enough to cover their advances and possibly improved my resume, but from a financial perspective were a horrible investment of time. Even so, I did enjoy the process, and probably became a slightly better author by book four. Life being what it is (covered in my upcoming autobiography: how did I get here?) the writing petered out due to time constraints. And here we are, free of time constraints! Wrapped in a layer of AI. Full of so many self publishing options. I know I’m procrastinating actually writing anything about the journey, but at least I’m writing something.
